due to other users affected.
But since there was no feedback, thank you for your remarks.

2014-08-31 Thread Sam_
Complete upgrade to 14.04 trusty LTS.
No longer spam in logfiles and wl still works after kernel updates.
Possibly a backport of bcmwl-kernel-source could help 12.04.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-09-10 Thread Hohle Frucht
Hey Guys
So i had the same Bug on my MacBookPro 5,5 running linux Mint 15 based on
Ubuntu 13.04. I use BCM4322 [14e4:432b]
I think I managed to solve it by installing bcmwl-kernel-source
6.30.223.30+bdcom-0ubuntu3 in amd64 (Release) from this page :
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+package/bcmwl-kernel-source
it seems to me that there is a new version of the driver but its not updated in
the repositorys. For me the latest version was 6.2something but I found this
version with 6.3something and its seems to be working for me.

Cheers

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-09-09 Thread m4v
forgot to add that my wifi card is a BCM4313 (same as the bug reporter),
and this is a bug introduced with the upgrade of broadcom drivers, so
this is indeed a duplicate of bug 1097519, although that bug should have
a better title explaining that the bug is because of the privative
driver and not because Ubuntu is using the wrong one, as wl should work
for BCM4313.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-09-09 Thread m4v
I have this bug in Kubuntu 13.04, I couldn't connect to the wireless
networks at my university (with my home wireless it worked fine) with my
syslog full of those error msgs and several stack traces.

This was with the broadcom privative wl driver, I switched to brcmsmac
and now is working fine.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-09-01 Thread Peter Snow
This doesn't seem to be wifi related for me, since I seem to be getting:

ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

in my syslog twice every minute ON MY VPS!

It's a brand new VPS, which I've only installed zpanel on (which
installs the lamps stack).

I detect great hesitation/reluctance to fix this which is disappointing
considering that it's affecting LTS versions and this machine is
intended to be a production machine.

How can I commission it when it's doing that right from the start? I
don't want to checkout Fedora, but what option do I have?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-09-01 Thread Peter Snow
Please scrub my last comment - I got my terminals mixed up (they all
look alike!). The error I was seeing was on my local machine and not my
VPS.

My local machine does have wifi and is working. However, I'm still
getting the errors and this again is an LTS version.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-08-28 Thread Frank Koniszewski
While it doesn't bother me much that code isn't what we'd all like it to
be when we get it, what troubles me if darned near EVERY 12.0.4 document
that is written or referenced as a help file starts with OPEN NETWORK
MANAGER.

There were a number of things that 12.0.4 could do in a LTS model so I
jumped in. I'll stay because I like solving problems. What's unfortunate
is many will be leaving and never come back.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-08-13 Thread acoundexist
A modified version of the wl driver (just commented the errors out, so
they wont pop up) can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/8gq5vz3bghi1hhu/wl.tar.gz

The compiled-binary version can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/50hzvm0pbbcxzlq/wl.ko

It's not a permament fix but annoying errors will dissapear.

To install just run locate wl.ko, go in the directory that it pops up
and replace the wl.ko file. Remember to always keep a copy of the
original file, just in case.

Hope I helped someone.

P.S. I am not sure if download links like this are allowed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-08-06 Thread mauriicio
According to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#A11.10_.28Oneiric_Ocelot.29_-_12.10_.28Quantal_Quetzal.29-1
, Since 11.10 the package linux-firmware-nonfree also contains b43
firmware

Then,
I completely uninstalled bcmwl-kernel-source, b43-fwcutter and
firmware-b43-installer,
and installed linux-firmware-nonfree.
Solves the problem.

and to complete the work,
according to

 ,

Load the b43 module:

$ sudo modprobe b43

To make it work automatically:

$ sudo su
# echo b43 /etc/modules

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1114281] Re: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

2013-07-30 Thread David Gardenhire
I was getting the same issue and solved it by following the instructions in
 a
href=http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-280821.htmlfedoraforum.org/a
and
 a href=http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txtwww.broadcom.com/a
Which basically is to download the broadcom upstream STA driver source from
broadcom, make a few minor edits to the source (explained in the fedora forum
link) and compile the wl.ko module yourself, blacklist all the other broadcom
modules. I sugesst reading through both pages completely.

Not only did this get rid of the log file spamming, but the connection
status is now as it should be, with the Ubuntu compiled version I could
only get full strength right next to the router, now I get full strength
up to 15 feet away (similar to windows).
