I have this problem on Ubuntu 15.04, my laptop is Lenovo Ideapad P500.
This is a fresh install.
I already tried several workaround from stack overflow, and none worked.

Thank you Christopher.
I was able to solve the problem by modifying some GRUB settings that I found in
an Archlinux post; strangely, the others that I found in StackExchange
properly for Ubuntu didn't do the job.
I wondered if you still recommend posting about it.

Jeff Marcom, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
