I switched to Arch, where the problem persists. The rc.local fix described above does not work because Arch uses systemd. Here is a UDEV rule that solves the problem. # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/ehc1.rules ACTION==add, KERNEL==:00:1d.0, SUBSYSTEM==pci, RUN+=/bin/sh -c 'echo EHC1
