Bug description:
  Hello!
I have a HP EliteBook 850 G1 which frequently crashes - will attach crash
report.
The system is brandnew, factory installed was Windows 7 (still in place as
alternate boot option, rarely used), i.e. no earlier Linux on it yet. Most
interesting detail is that this happens ONLY when running on batteries, if
connected to power, no problems whatsoever), using batteries however
reproducible within = 30min (it just happens).
Affected actual process (mozStorage in this example) varies, ultimately the
OS hangs.
  Used memtest86 - nothing found.

If there is any further info needed, pls let me know!
  Thx!!

PS: I used the GUI-based crash reporting function but have no clue where that
data ended up and what to do next ... so possibly this already appears somewhere

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326492] Re: BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

2014-08-04 Thread tge
Now experimented more *with* XEN and found the the VT option was not
enabled in the BIOS. After doing this and rebooting (meanwhile also
updated kernel a few times and am now at 3.13.0-32-generic) no more
problems.

Looks as if the XEN-based kernel is not able to handle this under all
circumstances?

Looks as if it is related to XEN. Have been using now the non-XEN
3.13.0-27 since a couple of days on battery/power, suspend/resume
numerous times, with/without bluetooth enabled, normal working - no
problems.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326492] Re: BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

2014-06-19 Thread tge
Have to withdraw the comment that the problem is fixed. Since then, had
another three freezes, always with 3.13.0-27, always with XEN in kernel,
always running on power. None of these three times, a crash report was
available, the system just froze.

Will continue experimenting with or w/o battery, with or w/o XEN.

The 3.15 kernel is difficult to use since this is actually my productive
system and I cannot work w/o Wifi.

BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

2014-06-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

With the recent release of this Ubuntu release, would like to confirm
if this bug is still present. Please test again with the newer kernel
and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326492] Re: BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

2014-06-11 Thread tge
I tried vmlinuz-3.15.0-031500rc8-generic, here is a summary:
- no crash anymore
- I just used it for a while, rebooted a few times, suspended, bluetooth
on/off, this+that - no problems at all
- Possibly important difference though: Wifi dir not work, did not investigate
further (could not find anything obvious in syslog)

Now the funny thing:
- booted again vmlinuz-3.13.0-27-generic - no problems anymore either ...
- tried to figure out what is now different:
  - currently no XEN in loaded kernel (before I'm quite certain that I tried
both with and w/o XEN), however I never actually used it yet
  - even more interesting (?): Originally I installed 14.04 with Unity, then
replaced Unity by xubuntu (well, installed xubuntu and
selected it at session start). After doing that, I had troubles with the
GUI indicators for network, power, etc. some of them were
running multiple times and under different identities (as tge and
lightdm), with additional background processes ... This was quite annoying
but not first priority and I could not
imagine that there might be a relationship, therefore I also did not take
any notes/screenshots/... - not more details available
Now this is not the case anymore, possibly the frequent re-booting somehow
cleaned the session config ... (?)

Now:
- I'll try with XEN again
- Is there any possibility that the GUI indicators (especially power (?), and
if running multiple times with the associated
background services) have the capability of causing such behavior?
Other ideas?

Many thx + regards,
  tge

2014-06-04 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

Also, can you disable bluetooth and see if this issue goes away?

Title:
BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

  Thx!!
tge

PS: I used the GUI-based crash reporting function but have no clue where that
data ended up and what to do next ... so possibly this already appears somewhere

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326492] Re: BUG: Bad page map in process mozStorage #6 pte:24f2f965 pmd:124fc3067

2014-06-04 Thread tge
Rgd bluetooth - well, actually the GUI status says so, but:
tge@nutmeg:/tmp$ ps -ef | grep blue
root 726 1 0 Jun01 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/bluetoothd
tge 2910 2472 0 Jun01 ?00:00:00
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/indicator-bluetooth/indicator-bluetooth-service
tge 2920 2472 0 Jun01 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/python
/usr/bin/blueman-applet
...
tge@nutmeg:/tmp$ lsmod | grep blu
bluetooth 395423 22 bnep,btusb,rfcomm
Does that matter?

Rgd kernel update, I'll try ...

Many thx so far ...
  tge
