Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

2014-10-27 Thread tsoe00
Hi Joseph,
So the new Kernel (3.13.0-37-generic) basically came in during my latest update
about a week ago and my server has been using it since then.
However, I'm still getting the Kernel Crashes.
I have found out that there is a correlation between the kernel crashes and a
daemon that I'm running sabnzbdplus which is a newsgroup downloader. If I don't
download anything with it and just let it sit idle in the background then the
Kernel can run for days without crashing. As soon as I make the daemon download
something overnight I wake up to a crashed Kernel.
From the crash screen I noticed one of the lines:
CPU: 1 PID:24790 Comm: sabnzbdplus Tainted
I can understand that there potentially could be some bugs with sabnzbdplus but
I don't understand that it can take down the whole Kernel.
Best RegardsTommy

Yes but it does not seem to work. The kernel may not have been replaced.

If I use the other method apt-get‎ to replace the Kernel what package
name do I need to use?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

2014-10-08 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Also, there is a new version of the kernel in the -proposed repository.

Would it be possible for you to test this latest kernel and post back if it
resolves this bug?
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed.

Thank you in advance!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

2014-10-08 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of a
regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a
regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that
introduced the problem.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

2014-10-08 Thread tsoe00
Hi Joseph,
I have been running previous version of Ubuntu were I have never experienced
any problems on with the Kernels. However that was on an NVIDIA ION mother
board with an ATOM processor (about 6 years old).
I have now bought a new ASROCK Q1900-ITX motherboard with an integrated Bay
Trail ATOM processor. And it is the first time I install the Ubuntu 14.04 64
bit release on it so I have not tried out any previous Ubuntu releases on this
hardware.

Subject: [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of a
regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a
regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that
 introduced the problem.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1378930] Re: Kernel Crash

2014-10-08 Thread tsoe00
HI Joseph,
I can try out the latest Kernel. I just tried to follow the instructions for
replacing with the proposed Kernel and it looks like Aptitude is replacing the
Kernel.
But afterwards when I run uname -r it claims that I still have the old Kernel
installed: 3.13.0-36-generic
I don't know how to replace the Kernel then.
/Tommy

Also, there is a new version of the kernel in the -proposed repository.

Would it be possible for you to test this latest kernel and post back if it
 resolves this bug?
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
 enable and use -proposed.

 Thank you in advance!
