Title:
[Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Sometimes (randomly, but more often after a long while of being
suspended), my laptop cannot wake up from the suspended to ram state.
It is a samsung n220 netbook, with ubuntu 12.04 precise and 3.2
kernel. When the system hangs on wake, and I try to hit the caps lock
key, the led does not light up, meaning (I think) that it's not a
problem of video card, but a real kernel hang. It happens 1 over 5
times when I make my suspend my system to ram.

WORKAROUND: intel_idle.max_state=0 or 3 kernel parameter, but the
battery discharge rate shown by ubuntu is increased by at least ~1W.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390780] Re: [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

2014-11-11 Thread Christophe
The bug doesn't seem to appear anymore with the latest 3.18 kernel. Only
doesn't seem. But I have to revert to the old kernel as my screen
backlight cannot be dimmed anymore.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390780] Re: [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Christophe, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel
3.2 to 3.18 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390780] Re: [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

2014-11-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

Title:
[Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Sometimes (randomly, but more often after a long while of being suspended),
my laptop cannot wake up from the suspended to ram state. It is a samsung n220
netbook, with ubuntu 12.04 precise and 3.2 kernel. When the system hangs on
wake, and I try to hit the caps lock key, the led does not light up, meaning (I
think) that it's not a problem of video card, but a real kernel hang.
It's hard to know when the problem appear. It happens 1 over 5 times when I
make my suspend my system to ram.
Following various hints on the launchpad pages, I tried to put the
intel_idle.max_state=0 or 3 to the kernel parameter. It seems to work but then
the battery runs out of energy more quickly (and the battery discharge rate
shown by ubuntu is increased by almost 1W at least).
How could I track what causes my system to not wake up properly ?
  Thank you.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390780] Re: [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

2014-11-09 Thread Christophe
I tried hard to update my bios, but since I totally removed windows 7
from the hard drive, I haven't found any way to get the .exe bios
updater to work (wine didn't work, booting from a 'live' windows cd
didn't work either... saying that I had no battery or that it's not
charged enough).

I would prefer to try anything else than update my bios which would make
me install windows again (and I don't know how I could...).

What could I do else ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390780] Re: [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

2014-11-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Christophe, as per http://www.samsung.com/fr/support/model/NP-N220-JA01FR an
update to your BIOS is available (08JI). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Summary changed:

- Samsung n220 randomly does not wake up from suspended to ram state
+ [Samsung NP-N220-JA01FR] Intermittently does not resume from suspend

** Tags added: bios-outdated-08ji
