So this should also work:
*make a Bootable USBStick of Ubuntu 17.10
*disable SecureBoot in BIOS (but better read Documentation before doing so)
*choose Try Ubuntu when u are ask and the Touchpad should work
Ubuntu 17.10 has a lot of Advantages over 16.04
So here i am sitting scrolling Down with my Touchpad (Scroll Gesture not

Solution: I have disabled SecureBoot and was able to "make install" of the
akoya-fixup from git.
After restart the Touchpad was working on Ubuntu 16.04-r3 with latest
Mainline-Kernel .

As far as I know, it's impossible to follow them and it looks as though
they have not been doing anything anymore to fix the issue. Kai-Heng
Feng did his best and sent them an e-mail, but I never got a response
from them. He suggested to ask ITE Tech to debug the issue, but I've
given up and have u

It appears that there is a variant of this touchpad on the Medion S2218
/ MD99590 laptop, which is also affected. The device reports the same
name, but a different USB ID 04f3:074a.

There were some errors during the installation of the kernel (see
attachment). The kernel does boot normally, but the touchpad does not
respond at all. Keyboard and touchscreen are fine, however. Should I do
another apport from this new kernel?

Got everything running on the 4.10.0-24 kernel now. Fortunately, the
keyboard issue I had has been resolved, so no more need to recompile the
kernel with that increased HID number. Now all that remains to be fixed
is the multitouch on the the touchpad

I did dkms uninstall -m psmouse/elantech-x551c
Then I removed the newer kernels, rebooted and tried reinstalling the kernels
(both 4.4.0-81 and 4.10.0-24), but they still give exactly the same error and
then don't get recognized by Grub
I'm starting to think maybe it's better to do a fresh instal
How do I do that? Never used it before

It means Grub doesn't recognize it at all and I thus can't select it.
Actually, Grub still shows it as Mint 17.2 (even though it has been
upgraded to 18.1). Also, every time I reboot the update manager still
shows the newer kernels as a level 5 update to be installed, so my guess
is it never gets t

some point?
Remove "quite splash" from kernel parameter, and add "debug" to it before boot.

A small update: I have upgraded my system to Linux Mint 18.1. However,
there are problems installing new kernels and it has stuck with the old
3.16.0-24 kernel from before the upgrade. From the update manager I
tried installing both the standard 4.4 kernel that should've been
installed in the upgra

kernel, my keyboard would stop working (the current kernel I had to
rebuild with a number for HID increased to get the keyboard

But I can't boot stock ubuntu because I have a 32-bit bootloader and
boot a 64-bit OS. (Intel Microsoft Atom Deal)
For that reason I use isorespin.sh (http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/)
and use the latest mainlinekernel to be able to use networking (wifi)
I can try respin without mainlinekernel

Just digging out this 3-year old Thread to tell that this is still not
fixed in 2017.
Having these two Medion Notebooks:
- Medion Akoya S2217
- Medion Akoya S2218
with the same Touchpad:
- ITE Device(8910)
Tested with:
- ubuntu 16.04
- ubuntu 16.10
- ubuntu 17.04
And there is no:
- Multitou

Thanks for the reply.
I installed kernel 3.18, which booted normally, but the same problems as before
exist. The mouse is not recognized properly and the keyboard does not respond
at all (it shows some messages about maximum number of hid usages being
exceeded at startup).
xinput now only shows
