I'm having the same issue, but native to Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 (kernel
4.2.0) on Dell Precision 7510 with Broadcom 5880. Card reads
successfully from SCRx31 USB reader. Card also works on kernel 3.13.0
(different Dell computer) with same Broadcom 5880 reader.

I have the same problem when accessing an iphone from a kvm win8.1 vm.
itunes complains not beeing able to connect to the iphone and at the
same time during its tries, i see lots of theses messages on the syslog
