Title:
Suspending Sony Vaio laptop results in system hang occasionally

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Sony Vaio VPCEA3C5E

Normally suspending this laptop works fine, but if I have been using
the system a lot (lots of applications open, etc.) there is a high
likelihood that it will freeze when suspending.

The screen goes black and all disk activity stops but the machine is
still turned on and does not respond to any keypresses including
trying Ctrl-Alt-F1 or the power button etc.

The only way out is to turn off the power and boot again.

As this happens mainly when programs are open (it doesn't seem to
matter exactly what is open, just that the system isn't idle. Maybe
when lots of memory is used?) it basically only happens at the worst
  possible times!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1627171] Re: Suspending Sony Vaio laptop results in system hang occasionally

2016-10-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream stable kernel?
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the
latest v4.4 stable kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
