[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1755595] Re: sbsa watchdog crashes thunderx2 system

2018-04-17 Thread Manoj Iyer
Tested the -proposed kernel on boomer with 6.2 fw version.

ubuntu@boomer:~$ dmesg | grep sbsa
ubuntu@boomer:~$ sudo modprobe sbsa_gwdt
ubuntu@boomer:~$ dmesg | grep sbsa
ubuntu@boomer:~$ lsmod | grep sbsa
sbsa_gwdt 16384 0
ubuntu@boomer:~$ ls /dev/watchdog
ls: cannot access '/dev/watchdog': No such file or directory
ubuntu@boomer:~$

Looks like sbsa is not exposed by fw6.2 on this thunderx2 system. No
kernel crash was observed.

Using the SBSA watchdog will crash the OS on ThunderX2 systems. This is not
an issue in current firmware because the SBSA watchdog is not exposed - but it
is likely to be introduced in a future update.

  [Test Case]
  $ sudo bash

The fix is restricted the sbsa_gwdt driver, which is only currently available
on some arm64 servers.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1755595] Re: sbsa watchdog crashes thunderx2 system

2018-04-10 Thread Brad Figg
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
artful' to 'verification-done-artful'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-artful' to 'verification-failed-
artful'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!
