OK - I think I have found the kernel transition point where the CRTC
(Cathode Ray Tube Controller?) flip_done timeout occurs:
4.7.10 --> OK
...
4.8.0 --> Onset of the CRTC flip_done timeout error
I will attach the DMESG logs for 4.7.10 and 4.8.0 in the next two posts

To advise, there is no guarantee that using video=SVIDEO-1:d as a
WORKAROUND will continue to work going forward as newer kernels are
updated.
Hence, you would still want to remove your WORKAROUND and fully bisect
the problem so that the developers can review and fix as applicable.
