Bug description:
  For a fresh installed Ubuntu 16 (and 18), touchpad doesn't work for
  Elantech ELAN0618.

  We have modified the struct elan_acpi_id, by adding ELAN0618 to the
  list of the supported models (in the file
  drivers/input/mouse/elan_i2c_core.c from the kernel source)

  static const struct acpi_device_id elan_acpi_id[] = {
{ "ELAN", 0 },
{ "ELAN0100", 0 },
{ "ELAN0600", 0 },
{ "ELAN0602", 0 },
{ "ELAN0605", 0 },

{ "ELAN060C", 0 },
{ "ELAN0611", 0 },
{ "ELAN0618", 0 },
{ "ELAN1000", 0 },
{ }
  };

  and then built the kernel, and our problem solved.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1778534] Re: Touchpad not working (Elantech ELAN0618)

2018-07-06 Thread mhzokaei
Thank you too for following up the reports here.

Sadly I currently have no access to the system, it was my friend's
laptop.

I think it is not yet merged since he said after a kernel update two
days ago (proposed by the Software Updater), the touchpad stopped
working and he had to install the manually built kernel again using
dpkg.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1778534] Re: Touchpad not working (Elantech ELAN0618)

2018-06-27 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Thank you for providing a patch, and making Ubuntu better.

Can you provide some information on the status of the patch with regards
to getting it merged upstream? Has it been sent upstream, what sort of
feedback has it received, is it getting applied to a subsystem
maintainer's tree, etc?

o submit your patch, send your patch with the detailed
description/changelog and your Signoff (ending with Signed-off-by: your
name ), to the emails listed from ./scripts/get_maintainer.pl
drivers/SUBSYSTEM-DETAILS (the get_maintainer.pl is from the kernel
sources). Once you have sent the patch upstream and it's accepted,
please drop a note here so that we can cherry-pick/include the patch
into Ubuntu kernel.
