I have a wireless mouse powered by non-rechargeable battery. The mouse
works absolutely fine even with low battery level. Problem is, Ubuntu
gives notifications about the battery level all the time.

I have had this issue for almost two months now, and mouse is working
perfectly. I had to click away the notification almost every time I
moved the mouse. I was then able to make the notifications appear less
frequently, but the notification still always appear after some
interval, and always after I log in.

Here are some specific things I have tried, they have not helped.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2022-03-23 Thread Jon Grah
I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS and GNOME 3.36.8

Still having this problem. Very surprised it has lasted this long. In
any case, if it is fixed, will this change make it to the next LTS
update?

This has been fixed on the GNOME side. Can we have this backported?
I'm willing to do the backport, if it will get merged.

2020-12-09 Thread Florian 'rephlex' Panzer
Follow-up to Comment #36: Although patching upower fixes the issue,
gnome-settings-daemon is still broken, since disabling notifications
won't disable all notifications.

2020-10-17 Thread Renne
The battery warning stays on top window layer all the time and covers
real important warnings and information, e.g. the task bar of a window.

It is worse if you use virtual machines as you e.g. cannot read
notifications like to disable the capture of mouse and keyboard on the
host machine!

Clarification: this bug ist not about wrong battery Level measurements
(Nobody reported that), it's about users being unable to disable
notifications. The notification is shown even when in DND mode.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2020-09-25 Thread Cristiano
If I understood correctly this bug was invalidated as a Linux bug only,
not as a GNOME issue. As a GNOME (or more specifically as "gnome-
settings-daemon package") it is not only valid, but its priority is set
to high. It makes sense to me.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2020-09-25 Thread Ben Landin
This bug is NOT invalid. This issue has remained unaddressed for years.
Worse still, workarounds that used to mitigate the problem (dconf
tweaks, etc) no longer seem effective.

PLEASE, do not close this bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2020-08-24 Thread Dan
N, please don't mark this as invalid. This is the most annoying
notification on my wonderful Gnome desktop. It is so premature. First
off, it thinks my MX Logitech keyboard is a mouse and secondly, it
displays over and over long before the keyboard needs to be charged.

I use this keyboard with 2 other operating systems and none of them have
this issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2020-06-12 Thread Florian 'rephlex' Panzer
Some background: rechargeable batteries have 1.2V nominal (compared to
1.5V nominal for regular battteries). Any mouse will report levels
around 10%, although the batteries will run for *many* months.

So users of rechargeable batteries will experience notifications about
low levels basically after a few days of using a rechargeable battery.

Although you might very wel argue that "it's a hardware problem",
notifications about low mouse / keyboard battery should be optional, not
forced upon the user.

I have no way to disable the mouse / battery level alarm. (that is BUG
#1)

Furthermore, if i use DND (which i don't really want to use, but just
assumed), the mouse/keyboard alarms are the ONLY alarms that OVERRIDE
DND, to "using DND" is not a solution, and DND does in fact disturb in
some cases, which is BUG #2.

gives notifications about the battery level all the time.

2020-05-05 Thread Bhabba
> I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 and every time I start typing on my keyboard,
the "Keyboard battery low" alert pops up, obscuring a large part of the
screen. This is becoming really annoying. I do not want to completely
disable all power notifications as I'm using a laptop and need to know
when the laptop will die.

Exactly the same problem here!

2020-04-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Retitling, it's now possible to disable the power notification but
that's still not a great solution

** Summary changed:

- “Mouse battery low” notification appears even when all notifications disabled
+ “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High
