Dear Sir, I followed the procedure but when searched for the text file for forwarding, I could not locate it. Later I rebooted the system and did a memory check. I aborted the memory check after a few minutes but upon reboot, when it came to normal mode, I could see things working as normal

This sounds like a regression of bug 1727356. And it appears the patch for that bug was dropped in mutter version: 3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.1 because it was upstreamed and is in mutter version 3.28.4. And still is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of
