So now I build a kernel based on 5.4.0-24-generic with [1] on top of it
and it indeed fixed the problem for me.

dmesg after
$ echo realtek | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
$ sudo update-initramfs -u -k all && sudo reboot

Adding realtek to /etc/modules as described in #1871182
