no "make" log I guess...
Tell me how I can compile any above version by sha, and I can reproduce.

done,
but I think it's bad again: I only had "good" results, and had to skip some for
"make" errors. See log file.
What did I wrong?

Yes, please bisect between v4.16-rc7 and v4.17-rc1. The range contains
much less commits.

I tried all 4.16 (1 to 18), none of them work. Should I bisect from
4.16-rc7 to 4.17 or to 4.16.1?

ok, I probably missed something.
v4.16-rc7 works and v4.17-rc1 doesn't.
to be sure: should I bisect between these one? what's the right syntax for
version in first:
git bisect good / bad $
?

The bisect result isn't right.
Can you please also test 4.17-rc*? The bisect between 4.16 and 4.17 is too
large.

Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?
First, find the last -rc kernel works and the first -rc kernel doesn’t
work from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git

** Description changed:
Esata doesn't work after boot: when hotplug an external drive, nothing
happens, no dmesg or syslog.
It works perfectly when booting on the external HDD itself, and it mounts
after boot if plugging on grub
