I got the same bug. If hciuart.service was started before /dev/serial1 is created, it fails. Fixed by adding systemd override with "Requires" directive: # systemctl cat hciuart # /lib/systemd/system/hciuart.service [Unit] Description=Configure Bluetooth Modems connected by UART
