it's not a surprise you are having boot delays. Thank you again for

Title:
boot screen takes about 90 seconds between grub and seeing the boot
  logo

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I boot my system from a usb stick (the home partition is on a separate
SD-Card). When I insert the harddrive (without using it) the system boots much
faster from the usb stick than without the harddrive while only accessing the
harddrive one or two times at the beginning.
Without a harddrive in it, ubuntu takes about 80 to 90 seconds each time
between showing grub and showing the ubuntu logo plymouth screen and then loads
within about 10 seconds to the desktop (really fast).

Were it not much faster with the harddrive (which is not really
functional because it has a physical header crash), I would just
assume it was a slow usb drive, but this test lead me to believe that
somehow the boot system is probing for a harddrive for a long time.
Still I have no idea if this is what is really happening...

  1)Description: Ubuntu 10.10
  Release: 10.10

  2) If it is plymouth
  plymouth:
    Installed: 0.8.2-2ubuntu5
    Candidate: 0.8.2-2ubuntu5
    Version table:
   *** 0.8.2-2ubuntu5 0
          500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) Boot as fast as with a harddrive inserted

  4) Boots a lot slower than with an inserted but not used harddrive
