I have this same problem in ubuntu 13.10 with ASUS mother board. If any non-input device is plugged in, I cannot boot into Ubuntu. I get Grub, but after that just a blinking grey line with no output. Debian, Fedora, and Windows, boot just fine on the same machine with USB stuff plugged in. I also
