Bootable ISO of 12.10 also does not have the wl driver. I assume that
the wireless driver was included in 13.04 for the first time by default.
I may try downloading and compiling the latest driver from the broadcom
site and run tainted to see if there is an issue with that driver.

Latest built wl driver (sta) from broadcom does not cause crash. This is
a version issue of the wl driver that is included as the wl package. I
followed the instructions in the compile guide and moved the existing
wl.ko drivers to test. Checked that my compiled version was the running
version and
