My comment #41 above does not fully apply. It turned out that removing
"iwlwifi" from SUSPEND_MODULES="" in /etc/pm/config.d/config (I had to
add it in 13.10 in order to get it working) fixed the issue for me.

I had a continuing problem, intermittant, with 13.10 resuming from a
suspend: login screen would freeze, but at least then I could do a
"Switch User" and could get back into my session. With 14.04, that
option is no longer available, and now the whole system seems to freeze.
