I have some results from my investigation. I just tried a number of
mainline builds: 3.13rc1, 3.13.{0,6,8,9,11}. With all of them, that is,
from the first RC to the most current release in the 3.13 series,
resuming works flawlessly. It is also of note, as have already been said
above, that 3.14.{1,
I also have this issue since formatting and going to the official
14.04LTS. I can barely keep it connected 5-10 minutes if that.
Originally I was on 13.10 and did an update to the beta. I didn't have
any issues on 13.10 or the beta.

to
#define MAX_XFER_SIZE 61
is enough to fix the problem.
I have confirmed that with this change the firmware loads and I am able
to watch TV using me-tv.

Has anyone tried out Ubuntu 14.04?
I have recently tried Manjaro, and then a full Arch Install on my Lenovo
z580. Both successfully boot without any modifications. I'll keep an
eye out here in the mean time, in hopes that this gets resolved.
