But for this one, the model name for this system is Compad 15 Notebook PC,
instead of HP Touchsmart 15, thus the patch in that bug does not work for this.

Note that the DKMS provided by David in comment #5 of bug 1334950 could
make the audio mute LED works on this system.

Apparently this bug is also present in Debian. In my case the corrupted
image was a windows one. When I run qemu-img check over it it will
complain about lots of clusters, and if I pass it the repair flag, then
it will end up crashing with the following message:
$ qemu-img check -r all windows.im

First couple of days were good.

Yes, please! Since the kernel filename is the same
Weirdly the bug only happens on VT switching directly from X (VT 7). If
you switch to some other VT before Mir's then there's no flickering.

No wonder Dell didn't include Linux as an OS option. So yeah, fairly big

If I stop network-manager and connect directly via wpa_supplicant to
