It doesn't appear the patch Henrik wrote ever landed upstream. I'll
build a Xenial test kernel with the patch to see if it fixes the bug.
If it does, we can SRU it into Ubuntu.
I'll post a link to a test kernel shortly.

I'm facing the same issue on my laptop after an upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10. I
tried:

* boot-repair
Neither worked. I also tried installing the mainline linux kernel

probably something in grub, not necessarily

Hey Timo,
I don't think your issue it related to the original issue I raised when
I opened this bug. Grub isn't having device path issue, it's having
checksum issues.

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel

Kernel versions were 4.4.0-42 upgrading to 4.4.0-45.
The checksum mismatch happens with every kernel version, so I don't
think it's kernel specific. Looks to be a grub or ZOL issue.

Thanks Florian and Joseph! With the two patches it's definitively a lot
better! Boot times without NM and lightdm:
4.4: 1.5s
4.8.0-22 (zesty): 16.8s
4.8.0-26 (Joseph's kernel): 8.4s
So still quite far from what we used to have, but already twice as fast
as the current y/z kernel.

I built a Xenial test kernel with Henriks patche. It can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1433906
Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?
Note, with this test kernel you have to install both the linux-image and
linux-image-extra .deb packages.

again to get feedback. We usually like to cherry pick patches from
upstream, and keep in sync. However, if it's going to take a

uname -r : 4.4.0-45-generic with the same result. See attached
screenshot of ifconfig and iwconfig.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have
installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve
this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can
be done via the
problem with ubuntu 16.04
