I may be able to shed some light on this issue.
I am facing the same problem as described by the FMstrat, but in my case, its
caused by Accelerometer orientation which of course doesn't work.
I am on kernel 5.0 mainline and I am still facing the same problem.

I have the same laptop. Neither my orientation is working, nor my mic.
PS: its a late 2018 model.
