I have just upgraded the system and installed kernel
4.10.17-041017-lowlatency. I have just managed to boot with this new
kernel.

Yes I can boot with kernel 4.10.0-21. I have tried installing kernel
4.10.17-041017 (latest v4.10 stable kernel) as per your instruction.
The problem persists: boot freezes. Which tag is the most appropriate?
