I have EeePC 1001HA(wlan is AR9285) and troubled with same problem for a couple of these days. If you are running dual boot system, try reboot from windows and enable your wlan then reboot ubuntu again. This works for me. I also found phy0 is hard blocked all the time while the problem occurs
