[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1459985] Re: r8169 ethernet stops working after a while
Ville Ranki, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (netdev) by following the instructions verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ? Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger- lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the respective archive. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged ** Summary changed: - r8169 ethernet stops working after a while + 10ec:8168 r8169 ethernet stops working after a while -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459985 Title: 10ec:8168 r8169 ethernet stops working after a while Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have a lenovoE540 laptop with a r8169 wired onboard ethernet. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1459985] Re: r8169 ethernet stops working after a while
Ville Ranki, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: latest-bios-2.19 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459985 Title: r8169 ethernet stops working after a while Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a lenovoE540 laptop with a r8169 wired onboard ethernet. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1459985] Re: r8169 ethernet stops working after a while
Ville Ranki, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and- netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-edge-e540 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.19). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-2.19 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459985 Title: r8169 ethernet stops working after a while Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a lenovoE540 laptop with a r8169 wired onboard ethernet.
