The downside is that they don't go through normal Linux crash paths, so they don't give much information to the Linux console. IBM is requesting to have the commit b746e3e01e70d23ef53dcde1203ab78a1b7ac514 in the Zesty kernel. Commit b746e3e01e70d2 is in mainline as of 4.14-rc1.
