  to the Linux console.

  IBM is requesting to have the commit b746e3e01e70d23ef53dcde1203ab78a1b7ac514

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1735159] Re: powerpc/powernv: Flush console before platform error reboot

2018-03-19 Thread Stefan Bader
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
artful' to 'verification-done-artful'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-artful' to 'verification-failed-
artful'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Bug description:
  == SRU Justification ==
  IBM unrecovered MCE and HMI errors are sent through a special restart OPAL
  call to log the platform error. The downside is that they don't go
  through normal Linux crash paths, so they don't give much information
  to the Linux console.

  IBM is requesting to have the commit b746e3e01e70d23ef53dcde1203ab78a1b7ac514
  in the Zesty kernel.

  Commit b746e3e01e70d2 is in mainline as of 4.14-rc1.

  Breno Leitao from IBM did a backport of this commit.

  == Fix ==
  commit b746e3e01e70d23ef53dcde1203ab78a1b7ac514

  powerpc/powernv: Flush console before platform error reboot

  == Regression Potential ==
  This patch is specific to powerpc, and it has been backported, reviewed and
  tested by IBM.

  == Test Case ==
  A test kernel was built with this patch and tested by the original bug
reporter.
  The bug reporter states the test kernel resolved the bug.

2018-01-16 Thread Manoj Iyer
Since 4.10 was replaced with 4.13 kernel version for linux-hwe, would it
make sense to backport this patch to 4.13 (Artful) ? Could you
(jsalisbury) please add Artful as a target series to track?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1735159] Re: powerpc/powernv: Flush console before platform error reboot

2017-11-29 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built a Zesty test kernel with your back port. The test kernel can be
downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1735159/

Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?
