[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1737536] Re: Webcams not working on a Dell Latitude 5285 laptop

2018-04-06 Thread Frédéric Parrenin
A detailed answer to this problem is provided here:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg131388.html
In summary, these "complex" webcams need drivers both in kernel space and user
space, and it will take some time before they are supported under linux.
If ubuntu devs can help to speed up the development of these drivers, this
would be appreciated!

Bug description:
I installed ubuntu 17.10 on a Dell latitude 5285 detachable laptop.
Unfortunately, the webcams (both rear and front) do not work.
  There is no /dev/video* file.
I tried upgrading the kernel to version 4.14 and 4.15rc3, but the problem is
still there.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1737536] Re: Webcams not working on a Dell Latitude 5285 laptop

2017-12-11 Thread Frédéric Parrenin
After some research, it seems the webcams depend on a new intel driver which
will be released in kernel 4.16:
