problem.

Imagine how great it would have been if you had mentioned how did
exactly you did that (enabling ACPI in grub)?

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764040] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not Detected

2018-05-09 Thread Dave Harton
Hi,

This is now solved.

Grub had somehow been changed to disable ACPI. Enabling that solved the
problem.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764040] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not Detected

2018-04-27 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
You can also try other i8042 parameters:

i8042.unmask_kbd_data
[HW] Enable printing of interrupt data from the KBD
port
(disabled by default, and as a pre-condition
  requires that i8042.debug=1 be enabled)
i8042.direct[HW] Put keyboard port into non-translated mode
i8042.dumbkbd [HW] Pretend that controller can only read data from
keyboard and cannot control its state
(Don't attempt to blink the leds)
i8042.noaux [HW] Don't check for auxiliary (== mouse) port
 i8042.nokbd [HW] Don't check/create keyboard port
i8042.noloop[HW] Disable the AUX Loopback command while probing
  for the AUX port
i8042.nomux [HW] Don't check presence of an active multiplexing
  controller
i8042.nopnp [HW] Don't use ACPIPnP / PnPBIOS to discover KBD/AUX
  controllers
i8042.notimeout [HW] Ignore timeout condition signalled by controller
i8042.reset [HW] Reset the controller during init, cleanup and
  suspend-to-ram transitions, only during s2r
  transitions, or never reset
 Format: { 1 | Y | y | 0 | N | n }
 1, Y, y: always reset controller
 0, N, n: don't ever reset controller
Default: only on s2r transitions on x86; most other
architectures force reset to be always executed
 i8042.unlock[HW] Unlock (ignore) the keylock
i8042.kbdreset [HW] Reset device connected to KBD port

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764040] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not Detected

2018-04-26 Thread Dave Harton

No luck. Still no touchpad :(

I was going to do a clean install of 18.04. Is this an idea?

Cheers

Please try if kernel parameter "i8042.noloop=1" works for you.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764040] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not Detected

2018-04-21 Thread Dave Harton
Hi Joseph,

No luck... Still not working.

Updated via UKUU. I have attached the screenshot showing the kernel version
plus the list of input devices.

Cheers,
Dave

PS why doesn't the wiki suggest using UKUU to install upstream kernels? So
much easier to do.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764040] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not Detected

2018-04-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.16 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
