That is not the only bug that has “slip through our radar”. The latest update of Ubuntu MATE lies about the owner of files both in the command line ls -l command and the Caja Properties window. Both claim the owner is root. Since I am logged on a robert not root I would not be able to create,

No since the kernel I reported does not work. After reinstalling Ubuntu MATE 14.10, I am using kernel 4.18.0-generic. This version has its own set of bugs (i.e. file and directory owner are improperly reported as root my command line ls -l and Caja. I know this is a lie since I am not logged in a
