Bug description:
  Hi,

I have 10 notebooks HP 1410s on which I replace XP/Vista with Ubuntu
18.04.1 I face a problem on ALL of them, as soon as I connect an
external screen, doesn't matter VGA or HDMI, the internal screen goes
black, only mouse icon is their, blinking from time to time but
reacting. External screen does show nothing but there is no "no
signal" info what means that source is recognized.

As soon as I release the video cable from external display, the
internal one come back to live after few seconds. The BIOS was updated
  to latest available.

2018-11-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
tootai,

Could you please update the machine? This looks a little like a bug that
was fixed recently.

When done, please run:

  dpkg -l > allpackages.txt

and attach the resulting 'allpackages.txt'.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-07 Thread Dash
More infos. I installed the notebook from scratch with a 16.04.2 image
and update to latest 16.04 packages which installed 4.15.0-38 kernel.
The laptop has the correct behavior, without entering settings I can
switch/duplicate displays with the fn key.

So original problem seems not related to kernel version.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-06 Thread Dash
Ubuntu 18.10 does have the same problem, Ubuntu 16.04.2 has *NO*
problem. From where could I get an 4.4 kernel for 18.04 for testing
purpose ?

Other infos: when I check in systems, it show me 3 display despite the
fact that only 2 are connected:

1. internal display
2. unknown display with resolution 1024 x 768 (4:3) 800 x 600 (4:3) 848 x 480
(16:9) !
3. external display with correct informations (Brand, model, )

I also discover that starting the laptop with the display connected,
shows me the splash image on both displays as it should. Problem arise
on greeting image. From here I see "No input signal" and the external
display goes black.

Daniel

PS: perhaps bug 1723025? could be identical but from my side, I can
start with or without external display, it's only when I use the fn
switch key that problem arise.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The machine seems to have an Intel CPU/GPU from 2009, which makes me
think this might be related somehow to bug 1727356. Can you please try
booting Ubuntu 18.10 as a test?

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have 10 notebooks HP 1410s on which I replace XP/Vista with Ubuntu
18.04.1 I face a problem on ALL of them, as soon as I connect an
external screen, doesn't matter VGA or HDMI, the internal screen goes
black, only mouse icon is their, blinking from time to time but
reacting. External screen does show nothing but there is no "no
signal" info what means that source is recognized.

As soon as I release the video cable from external display, the
internal one come back to live after few seconds. The BIOS was updated
  to latest available.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-05 Thread Cristian Aravena Romero
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
