Title:
Ubuntu 19.04/19.10 qa:test - suspended system resumed without audio
  (fixed with pavucontrol toggle)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 19.04 & 19.10 QA-testing
This has occurred on on 4 similar boxes; dell optiplex 755 (x2), 780 & 960
(using GNOME (ubuntu 19.04), XFCE (ubuntu-studio 19.04), LXQt (lubuntu 19.04 &
19.10) & Ubuntu-MATE (19.10))
Last occurrence was d780 where a new bug was added; bug 1829494 to ensure
diagnostic info was added
For additional info please look at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1829494

  - Original report follows

  Ubuntu 19.04 QA-Test (LIVE x86_64)

  Dell optiplex d755, (c2d-e8300, 8gb, Radeon HD 2400 PRO/XT)
Two dell displays, left is landscape, right is portrait

This live test had two packages added: `vim` & `ubuntu-restricted-
  extras`

  Background:
I added ubuntu-restricted-extras so I could run requested test on this system
which had me streaming videos from utube - it was required to get around H264
errors (vim because I can't cope with other editors & added `multiverse` to my
sources.

  Issue:
With firefox streaming ABC News 24 (local AU news) I suspended machine.
Waited
Awoke machine - everything resumed as expected .. Some circling was apparent
on firefox before picture resumed, however no sound.

I was unable to fix it using any tools installed - to fix I `sudo apt
install pavucontrol`, went to Configuration (or last tab) and
Profile=Off on the drop-down menu, then returned to
Profile=AnalogStereo Duplex. This is something I do on occasion for
this machine on installed system or other machines I use.

This is really a minor issue, & may not be an issue on an installed
system (though I come across it semi-regularly & just live with it).
In regular use I pause/stop sound & know this makes this almost a non-
issue (almost never happens when sound isn't playing).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1816394] Re: Ubuntu 19.04/19.10 qa:test - suspended system resumed without audio (fixed with pavucontrol toggle)

2021-07-11 Thread Chris Guiver
this issue is not limited to Ubuntu..

I've been suspending debian-bullseye (11) on
- dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

lately and when I resume I have this issue. The d780 box has numerous
lubuntu installs (used for QA & support) but I don't suspend any of
them.

Of note it's been a long time since I've had this issue with my
primary d960 box (it's on impish now as on development cycle).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1816394] Re: Ubuntu 19.04/19.10 qa:test - suspended system resumed without audio (fixed with pavucontrol toggle)

2019-10-11 Thread Chris Guiver
19.10 Lubuntu LIVE qa-tests (x2)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

On 2nd d780 box my comments are (the MUTE/UNMUTE from panel is new) :-

suspend - it resumed without sound :(only vlc was playing so no ^R) , I had to
load `pavucontrol` and toggle the profile off/on to have sound resume.
I paused `vlc` (what I do normally to avoid this issue) and suspended again,
resumed & no sound :( i played with various things (not pavucontrol) to try &
get sound to resume - got it working with toggling mute/unmute with panel sound
control - never used this before

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1816394] Re: Ubuntu 19.04/19.10 qa:test - suspended system resumed without audio (fixed with pavucontrol toggle)

2019-09-03 Thread Chris Guiver
quick Ubuntu-MATE 19.10 daily ISO (2019-09-03) test on
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

on suspend, 20sec wait, resume with power-button the sound didn't
resume. I quickly tried to correct using things found on 'live' system,
but switched to term, installed `pavucontrol` & toggled the audio
profile there to have the `mpv` and `firefox` continue their audio.
refreshing page on firefox didn't help.

sudo apt dist-upgrade, inc. 5.0.0-20.21 kernel

reboot, load 19.10

- suspend 5, wait ~25 secs, resume & sound
- suspend 6, wait ~40 secs, resume & sound
- suspend 7, wait ~40 secs, resume & sound
- suspend 8, wait ~30 secs, resume & sound
 8 resumes, 6 with sound, 2 no-sound

Statistically it's an improvement, but I think the testing shows not-
fixed sorry. The issue has never been predictable (at least not to me)
and I still had 2 failures with -proposed.

If flaws in my testing can be found - please notify me.
My 'primary' box has 19.10 on it, thus the use of d780.

2019-05-20 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu 19.10 QA-test (live 20190519)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

i suspended system & waited, on resume i had screensaver operating which
disappeared on movement of mouse. firefox streaming resumed, but without
sound. i heard a click though, so press ^R to refresh firefox's window
and video restarted with sound!

suspend system again, wait on resuming (power key) i got a different
screensaver hiding display (and silence), and movement of mouse I could
see firefox continuing to stream alas without sound. pausing and
stopping it did nothing. I opened a new tab with different youtube video
I'd watched earlier (selected from history) and it had no sound. Tried
refresh of first tab and it restarted video but without sound.

pavucontrol & to Configuration tab, click blue square "Analog Stereo
Duplex" so it's off, then back on. Instantly a loud din as I'd two music
tabs playing at full volume
