Ok, well, no idea what happened, but I did a hard power cycle with that
kernel parameter, and it started working. I rebooted again without it,
and it still worked. Perhaps the hard power cycle did something
different this time with the new BIOS, but I thought I had done that
since. In any event,
Please boot with kernel parameter `usbcore.dyndbg=+p` and attach dmesg.

This was previously marked as duplicate of bug 1823150, which was
actually resolved by upgrading BIOS, not the linux-firmware deb. Maybe
you'd also like to do the same? From GigaByte's support site [1], there
is already several new revisions available.
