Looks much better now, I removed display port driver 5.2.14 completely,
rebooted then installed 5.3.1.34 and after another reboot I am no longer able
to reproduce.
The dmesg log now looks like this:
[ 124.810007] r8169 :02:00.0 eth0: Link is Down
[ 124.832689] r8169 :03:00.0 eth1: Link
