here is a generic tool. Are you saying that I would need to use this 
tool to make a version of Kexi that will run in Ubuntu?
I am not saying you would need this tool. Because it targets more than 
just Ubuntu, it may be better investment, maybe even better than using 
Snaps. I did not test anything like that with Kexi though. You can 
also: - build Kexi by hand on your computer - build Kexi and package 
it (and share with others?) - use the https://build.opensuse.org/ 
service to do the same - ask someone else to make a package Finding 
people that _regularly_ help with packaging Kexi will help the 
project. Things will improve, just now the focus is on development of 
the new shiny Kexi 3.

Yes, if you use a PPA specific to the program.  You have to make sure
you select the PPA offering rather than the main repository one
though, I've been confused by this sometimes.

Can you please send a screenshot, long to documentation or a video?
All I see is that order is unspecified. I can reorder rows only for
spreadsheet mode, which is for example the one in Table Designer or
Query Designer. Data Table shows just that:

As long term MSA user I don't argue with anything you write here.

I just claim the feature costs many thousands, not an evening :)
If nobody can step up it would end up as a paid extension _if_ there's
market for it: someone has to hire developers that will deliver that.

My intent here was not at all to rub Kexi's nose in the dirt; I know you 
are working hard and I appreciate the progress you've made. I only 
raised the subject as you said you'd never seen any DB software that has 
the row-adding feature. In my mind, if I have to describe the ideal DB 
software today though, it does still remain MSA. If you are able to 
replicate the amazing features in MSA, you will have truly created an 
amazing tool for Linux users.

Looks wonderful-- I am really looking forward to the
day when I'll be able to upgrade kexi versions. The
version I have right now is so dysfunctional. Any time
the mouse crosses from the left side of the screen into
the left side of the table, it makes the table jump to
the top. This is endlessly frustrating and a huge waste
of time. Say I am working in row #750, the mouse moves
across the left border of the table and all of a sudden
the table jumps to row#1. If there is any fix for this,
please advise.

As for upgrading the OS, the Final Version of the new Ubuntu
LTS 16.04 is coming out on April 21. My current LTS 14.04 is
in all other regards functioning wonderfully, and I would
have no other reason to upgrade given my own specific usage
patterns and needs. Upgrading would only be done for getting
an updated Kexi, and for me upgrading Ubuntu on a MacBook
Pro is not a small job. So this being the case, let me just
ask the following questions:

I just now uninstalled kexi using the Ubuntu software manager, and 
then followed the listed tutorial for the new install of Calligra 
2.9.11. But to my surprise, it merely re-installed the very same old 
version which I've had for ages (Kexi Version 2.8.5, Using KDE 
Platform Version 4.14.13). So I'm afraid the tutorial is not working 
for installing Calligra 2.9.11. It just installs the ages old version 
of KOffice which comes with Ubuntu 14.04 repos. Please do let me know 
if you have a solution for this.

Looks wonderful-- I am really looking forward to the day when
I'll be able to upgrade kexi versions. The version I have
right now is so dysfunctional. Any time the mouse crosses
from the left side of the screen into the left side of the
table, it makes the table jump to the top. This is endlessly
frustrating and a huge waste of time. Say I am working in row
#750, the mouse moves across the left border of the table and
all of a sudden the table jumps to row#1. If there is any fix
for this, please advise.

virtual machine or different computer. Regardless of availability
of the Snap packages, staying with outdated software on LTS
platforms will be always a compromise. It's not a problem for
apps that do not evolve much anymore but Kexi is actively

updates appear for Kexi.

16.04 is coming out on April 21. My current LTS 14.04 is in all

me upgrading Ubuntu on a MacBook Pro is not a small job. So this
being the case, let me just ask the following questions:

Now this is very exciting indeed. I will definitely try this-- right now.

Do I need to first uninstall my existing version of Kexi? And if so, is 
it ok to use the Ubuntu software manager to do the *uninstall *?


Or can I leave the current install in place and install 2.9.11 alongside it?

Upgrading the OS can be an option.
Or requesting support from ubuntu or someone who can develop a backport.

(If it is just the previously described table-jumps-to-row#1 bug which

myself through long practice to this bug so that I don't cross that 
table border when working in Kexi.)
