My opinion is that it works in 3.2.0 and I worked on this issue for 3.2.0.
Natural thing: because the Ubuntu distributors are not part of the KEXI
project, they give no guarantee about their binaries, there is no 100%
guarantee how it will behave.

Upgrading is not straightforward due to the distribution's guidelines. This
is why the Flatpak version of KEXI has been developed - to suit many
distributions in one go. If all effort is put into distributing, there
would be no time for new features or fix in KEXI. Alternative can be a paid
download.

I am sorry to hear that the free support you received is insufficient. You
can consider finding a paid support, which would be potentially comparable
to MS Access - I guess email or phone support of MS Access isn't free.

Regarding the migration back, you need general guidance for "how to get
data from SQLite to MS Access".
There is no way to migrate forms and reports using a program, basically
because nobody paid for this function. Any programmer is free to write such
a tool and she/he will even receive integration support from the KEXI
folks. This is how new features appear in our environment - a matter of
need and choice.
Cheers.

In years past I have asked for solutions to the below items #2 and
#3, but there were none and so your team asked me to submit a
request for them, and I did that.

If there are still no solutions, please kindly at least just tell
me how to export my data from Kexi. I need to get on with my
work and need a platform which will allow for those functions.

Re: [Kexi] Basic (?) questions on Queries

2007-03-01 Thread Paul Thomas
Hi Jaroslaw,

Thanks for your prompt and very detailed answers. All this seems promising
and encourages spending some time in using kexi.

My primary goal is to "migrate" an MS access database with t0 tables, three
of them with +/- 10 000 lines. A dozen of queries, some of them quite
complex (cartesian, union + embedded queries). A good exercise to start
with...

I've been looking at OOO base and kexi:
1. No doubt kexi offers the best way to transfer data from an MS access
database. On top of that, OOO mdb connexion has some difficulties handling
non latin1 character sets;
2. Also no doubt that kexi is far superior performance-wise.

Now, the points I raise dearlier seem to be already available with OOO. but
you provided me good information and that could be enough to go. I still
would like the "not yet" be transformed in "included" in the near future,
but I understand that the qt4/kde4 migration is a big thing.

Thanks again,

Paul

Hello Paul,
The visual design mode does not support this (cartesian product) definition.
You obviously are able to switch directly to data mode and see the query works
as expected. To avoid losing the design, save the query in SQL view.
Next time, you will be able to open the query properly (but still do not touch
design view when working with this query).

This is a note for any statement that is not (yet) supported in the design view.

Simiar problem as above - not yet.

Not yet.

option 1) export to XML using a Python "Export Data to XHTML File" script and
then perform and XSLT transformation, what can give you pdf, html, etc.

See http://www.kexi-project.org/wiki/wikiview/index.php?ScriptingHandbook

option 2) Use "Simple printouts" function for rather simple cases
http://www.kexi-project.org/pics/1.0/simple_printouts.png

In general there is no groupping yet, so do not expect that complex
computations to be performed directly in Kexi now.

option 3) preparing custom (e.g. command line) C++ app that uses OpenDocument
variables to popualte database data for solution like mailmerge.
See http://www.kexi.pl/media/raporty/
This is most advanced, hard but powerful solution. In Kexi 2.x such things
will be available without a need for programming.

Thanks for asking, we should have them soon in the FAQ...

[Kexi] Basic (?) questions on Queries

2007-03-01 Thread Paul Thomas
Hello,

This is the first post I make on this list.

1. I tried to find out wether one can create queries based on more than one
occurence of a table. For example, if I only have one table "Names"
containing a liat of names (e.g. "Jones" "Doe"), the way to build a query
displaying all possible pairs of names would be something like:

SELECT names.name names_1.name AS name_1 FROM names, names AS names_1;

This works when entered in SQL mode, not in Design mode where it seems that
one table can be added only once. Am I wrong? Is it by design?

2. Can I build a query on a query?

3. Can a query create a table or appen rows to an existing table?

4. Not related to queries, but how would you recommend creating a report
based on a kexi table or base ?

My apologies if those questions have already been answered in this list. I
tried to find them bu could not.

Thank you in advance,

Paul
