Seth, You/KiCad might consider supporting Ubuntu for the full 5 year duration that LTS releases are supported by Ubuntu. On my home machines, for instance, I run Ubuntu 20.04 right now. On my work machines, however, I run Ubuntu 18.04 right now because the cost of upgrading a distro is so
