Hi Nick,

Thanks, I'm not planning on making any changes to the release
announcement so feel free to undraft it as is. Are you going to be able
to complete this today? I was also planning on making announcements on
some other platforms (Launcpad, User Forum, Twitter, etc.) as well so
please ping me when you undraft the release announcement.

Cheers,

Wayne

I just need to make sure they are mirrored to the github tags, so please
make it a pr and not mere it before the ci is green if you intend to make
the website change. But I will undraft it when everything is good, so if
you feed the need to add more info to the announcement please do so as a
draft.

I'll trigger builds tonight--there already is a deep queue for
nightlies, and in the morning I'll upload them to downloads and let
Wayne know so we can announce. Thanks everyone!

One more "bug," not sure if it's a bug or by design.

I use both Windows and macOS, and I set up Kicad 5.1.4 on a Windows
machine. I wanted to copy my symbol table from the Mac to the PC, and I
saw that for whatever reason my symbol table file didn't use
$KICAD_SYMBOL_DIR, and instead it hardcoded the path to
/Users/andy/Library/Application Support/kicad/library -- and that won't
work on Windows. So I changed the entries to use the $KICAD_SYMBOL_DIR,
and then I noticed that the environment variable on the Mac pointed to
/Users/andy/Library/Application Support/kicad/library

I changed it (again, on the Mac) to the usual ~/Library/Application
Support/kicad/library and Kicad didn't like that. I got a (broken)
message box saying,

So the home-directory shortcut doesn't work. I honestly don't remember
if it ever worked, or was meant to work.

Hi Andy-

Thank you for testing. Please report all bugs to the bug tracker. In
thread here will be lost and not tracked.

Thanks-
Seth

Re: [Kicad-developers] 5.1.5 release tag

2019-11-25 Thread Adam Wolf
Does it sound like I can make this release? While the application may
not be perfect, I haven't heard anything that makes me think the
packaging change is causing issues.

This has nothing to do with your OS. Somehow you have remapped an old
project to use the symbol library table to look up symbol links and the
library list in the project file did not get cleared. There are several
ways that this can happen. Most of them involve manual operations like
copying a file from another project or using version control to restore
the project file. The list of libraries is cleared after the dialog is
dismissed so if you schematic doesn't have any broken symbol links,
there is nothing to do. This warning is there because an unexpected
condition occurred that could cause broken symbol links when Eeschema
attempts to repair the issue.

This looks like an issue with the message dialog layout on macos. The
full string is shown on Linux. Does resizing the dialog help? If one
of the macos devs wants to debug this, you have to add:

[eeschema/libraries]
LibName1=power

to a project file then run Eeschema to show the dialog. If the dialog
doesn't show, you have to dig around the eeschem config file to enable it.

Re: [Kicad-developers] 5.1.5 release tag

2019-11-22 Thread Adam Wolf
Of course, while there could be bugs in anything at any time :) the
main thing I'm concerned about is that I recently made a change to the
packager that builds release builds with a release version of
wxwidgets. We were getting debug assertions popping up sometimes
(which are in Launchpad) on the nightlies, and Wayne and a few other
folks said let's make the releases not do that. This is the first
release since then, so I'm just a little cautious.

To make the release official, I think we are only needing the macos
build. @Adam Wolf if you need any help, please speak up.

If folks on 10.14 or 10.15 could test
https://kicad-downloads.s3.cern.ch/osx/stable/kicad-unified-5.1.5-rc1-10_14.dmg,
and anyone still on 10.13 or lower could test
https://kicad-downloads.s3.cern.ch/osx/stable/kicad-unified-5.1.5-rc2.dmg,
that would be great.

openSUSE provides 5.1.5 for all stable (Leap) and rolling (Tumbleweed)
distribution versions in the "electronics" project, and Tumbleweed users will
receive it automatically in a few days.

To make the release official, I think we are only needing the macos

Fedora Rawhide has 5.1.5 now. Fedora 30 and 31 will have 5.1.5 in a week or
so, depending on whether we get any karma.

Also of note - as of 5.1.5 we are now using OCC on all builds. OCE is no
longer needed for current Fedora releases.
