Ahh… that’s good to know.

I did manage to figure out how to trace it back farther (using sequential 
checkouts of the commits before the blame lines), but I got to the beginning of 
git and it was still there.

Hmm, ok that is seven years ago. I guess this was before we even supported
osx officially.

I'm sure this was done for a reason.  What that reason is I cannot say 
for sure.  I'm not opposed to enabling this assuming it isn't broken 
which I'm guessing was the case which is why it's turned off on macos 
builds.
