[kicad-users] HI A footprint discussion

2007-02-23 Thread Hristo Antonov
Hello i use KiCad 4 months now and find it a real modern hi-end CAD system,
but i think that the component and footprint databases are not
coressponding to the hi-end soul of Kicad.
It is obvious that we cant have all the component and footprints present
, but i would like to start a discussion about the need of an web
service on the Kicad component site for ONLINE search for components ,
footprints and the upload , download and viewing of them , creating a
really big database where everyone could participate and contribute.
I know that this is hard to accomplish , but I think that an open
discussion about this would be helpful .

Cheers

p.s. i am not sure is this the right way about adding a new topic on the
forum so apologies if i have something stupid

Hi Kicad fans,,

I have created http://www.kicadlib.org precisely with this intention.
But so that this site becomes user friendly and really useful, it
would be necessary for the user to be able to browse by category and
keywords and to look graphically the component and footprints.

I am searching a solution which is not too heavy to maintain.

Per example, the site could be only an ftp depositary with a keywords
data base and the browser could be a part of Kicad executable package.
So the graphical browsing would be in the user PC and the Internet
traffic remain very light.

As long as this work is for me a hobby, I cannot spend time too much
there, but if there are goodwills, I am taking.
Moreover, I am a little beginner in Internet programming.

My provider is supporting MySql and PHP 5.

I am listening of all the ideas, but I request you, to try to think
simple, if not that will remain a discussion and never will be done.

My primary language is French, so be indulgent with my English.

Regards.
