Igor,

PCBNEW and most PCB packages always view the board from the component side.
If you place a component on the copper side then all the pins will appear
reversed because you are viewing it through the board. The pin numbers and
net connections will still be correct.

Yes, because it is surface mount you can only connect to the pin from the
layer it is on, you can put a via just before the pin to change later
though.

Subject: [kicad-users] smd (qfp) package confusion

Hi,

i'm trying to layout a board containing a tqfp32 ic and through hole
components. The datasheet of this ic shows the package from top. In
this diagram the pins are number counter-clockwise.

Now if I include the smd ic as tqfp32 package in pcbnew, the pin
numbering is right (counter-clockwise) -- only pcbnew thinks that it
should go to the component side. This means it won't let me make
connections to its pins via traces on the copper side.

But every way I tried (flipping the module from the context menu,
and choosing Copper as the working layer in Edit Module) _also_
mirrors the package. In the mirrored package however the pins are
numbered clockwise. If I would try to mount the ic on this layout, I
had to mount it upside down?

What is it that i'm missing here?

Regards,
Igor
