you are right, those stem from turning on the includeSeeFromInSearches
system preference:
=100 z\$aRosmini, Antonio.
=100 z\$aSerbati, Antonio Rosmini.

bibliographic records for
It depends on which version of 17.xx if it is 17.05 then that is out of support
next month, so doing a new install of that is not a good idea.
And yes you should start planning to upgrade.

The 'default value' in the Marc/Authority framework is indeed a useful
workaround that could work for a few fields that require 'static' input
(ie 000, 003, 040).
For other, more 'dynamic' fields, that incorporate the current date
