If so (assuming I understood your use-case correctly) then how about adding
a bit of jQuery to OpacUserJS sys pref which does the following:
1) look up the branch code
That fix should work on previous stable branches

Found another scenario causing this bug. GetItemTypesCategorized returns
itemtypes and searchcategories. (previously only itemtypes were returned by
the now replaced routine). If a searchcategory is used and there is not an
itemtype with the samename the find returns no object, triggering the error

Thanks for your reply. After some random experimentation I finally got this
to work. The problem seemed to be related to just one entry in the .koc
