I've been working with Fedora Commons 4.x for the past year or two, and it's opened up my eyes more to RDF. Fedora uses RDF as its native metadata format but it doesn't use a triplestore to store the RDF. Instead, it uses ModeShape (a JCR - Java Content Repository data store) and Infinispan to store the data in a single file or a database. It works pretty well although there are some performance issues with ModeShape in terms of parent-child relationships. What I mean to say is that I'm not convinced that we need a triplestore just yet. I've also worked with Apache Fuseki a bit over the past few years, and it's not the best bit of software. I've founded and help resolve a few major bugs, but it isn't super robust. I've noticed it seems to have issues with fragmentation as well which means its disk usage can sky rocket when you update or delete data. Like Fedora, I think the best bet is to have a more conventional data store, and then if we want to use a triplestore we can add the RDF to the triplestore like we add metadata to ElasticSearch or Zebra. It's nice to trust a more established data store and be able to destroy and rebuild the external triplestore. For bigger libraries, it's worth noting that Apache Fuseki doesn't scale at all, so things like load balancing and replication aren't really possible. -- Going back to Fedora... I haven't found a need for a triplestore yet. If you wanted to have a SPARQL endpoint, it could be useful. As the author of the patch, I'd say it's probably worth pausing for the time being. I think our next priority should be changing biblio_metadata.marcflavour to something like biblio_metadata.schema (Tomas and I have talked about this before). Then the next step would be to store RDFXML in biblio_metadata.metadata with a biblio_metadata.format of "rdfxml" and a schema like "BIBFRAME". The next logical step would probably be to generate RDF from MARC, so that 1 "bibliographic record" can have 2 different metadata records. After that, we could focus on allowing Koha to use RDF (or any non-MARC metadata really). Practically, this might mean introducing a Koha intermediate metadata format which maps to/from other metadata formats. -- RDF itself isn't necessarily that hard to work with. RDFXML is awful to look at in comparison to Turtle or N3, but it's machine readable and easy enough to work at after it's parsed into triples in Perl. However, "Linked Data" is difficult. When RDF objects are links to external objects, things get tricky. However, I have yet to find a RDF system that handles perfectly Linked Data. Fedora Commons 4.x uses RDF natively but it doesn't have any "Linked Data" handling. You can have an external URI as an object, but it won't do anything special. That'll be up to the application one level higher from Fedora. (I haven't worked with Samvera or Hydra or Fez or anything like that.) IIIF is a RDF metadata schema that mostly embeds literal values although some objects can be resolvable URIs. This causes a JavaScript error. To test, apply the patch, regenerate CSS, and clear your browser cache if necessary. - In Administration -> Patron categories, confirm that you have two patron categories with different default messaging preferences defined. - Go to Patrons -> New patron - Create a new patron using one of the categories with messaging preferences. - Confirm that when you switch the category selection to the other patron category, the patron messaging preference checkboxes are changed to the default for that category. - A "Loading" indicator should appear above the checkboxes to show that an operation is in process. It should disappear when new default prefs are loaded. - Manually change one or more patron messaging preference checkboxes. - Switch the patron category again and confirm that you are prompted to confirm resetting the preferences to the default for that category. - Perform the same set of tests when editing a patron. - Defaults should not be loaded during the edit process. - Confirm that there are no other JavaScript errors in the console. - Test again with EnhancedMessagingPreferences disabled. We need to allow for both scenarios. On check-in the items location is compared ot the location on the left and, if it matches, is updated to the location on the left. This preference replaces ReturnToShelvingCart and InProcessingToShelvingCart preferences. The update statement should insert values that replciate these functions. Note existing functionality of all items in PROC location being returned to permanent_location is preserved by default. This causes a JavaScript error. To test, apply the patch, regenerate CSS, and clear your browser cache if necessary. - In Administration -> Patron categories, confirm that you have two patron categories with different default messaging preferences defined. - Go to Patrons -> New patron - Create a new patron using one of the categories with messaging preferences. - Confirm that when you switch the category selection to the other patron category, the patron messaging preference checkboxes are changed to the default for that category. - A "Loading" indicator should appear above the checkboxes to show that an operation is in process. It should disappear when new default prefs are loaded. - Manually change one or more patron messaging preference checkboxes. - Switch the patron category again and confirm that you are prompted to confirm resetting the preferences to the default for that category. - Perform the same set of tests when editing a patron. - Defaults should not be loaded during the edit process. - Confirm that there are no other JavaScript errors in the console. - Test again with EnhancedMessagingPreferences disabled. There's duplicated code that could be simplified. This patch makes the authentication code just set $user on each block (oauth and cookie authentication) and moves the final permissions check to the end of the authenticate_api_request method. Overall, the behaviour remains unchanged. To test: - Run: $ kshell k$ prove t/db_dependent/api/v1/auth_authenticate_api_request.t \ t/db_dependent/api/v1/oauth.t => SUCCESS: Tests pass!
