I went into Keyword to MARC mapping and created fields mapped to a single MARC 
subfield, for example, mesh** is mapped to 650a. Then I added the line
   MeSH Term
to my search. That doesn't work-the search comes up empty.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I've looked in the wiki and the 
documentation and I haven't found anything.

I'm using Koha 17.11 and Ubuntu 16.04.

if we are talking about Zebra, this might help:

I'd try and test if searching with mesh:... works in the keyword search. 
If it doesn't something might be missing from your index configuration, 
like adding it to the list of indexes in Search.pm.
