Re: KR> glassing procedure for wings
Robert, I agree with Larry. I'm actually at the same spot you are. Larry was going to fly over today and help me glass the bottom side of one of my wings but last night I was working on the trailing edge and decided I didn't like how it turned out. I called Larry to tell him and still wanted him to fly over to have another set of eyes to look at it but the wind forecast was to strong at his place. So we talked for a while and came up with some good ideas. KR> new KR1 project
I spent several hours this afternoon checking out an awesome KR1 under construction. After just one year of building it has the fuselage basically done with a slight extension, curved bottom similar to a Lanceair, widened to 24 inches, with a fixed windshield and sliding canopy, 11 gallon header tank with a 6 1/2 gallon tank in each wing root, tricycle gear with steerable nose wheel, and enlarged horizontal tail surfaces. The outer wings have a very simple folding wing setup that allows the wings to fold back along the fuselage, all push/pull controls. If this thing ends up at the next KR Gathering he'll have to ship the awards home as the baggage area won't hold them all. I'll get some photos on my next visit. At 05:18 PM 12/31/2016, you wrote: There was a brief discussion a few weeks ago, but I want to make certain I have this correct so please bear with me. ++ The end result is: With sufficient overlap on the forward spar you will end up with two layers on top from spar and around lead edge approx 4 inches, same on bottom, and one layer of glass from forward spar to wing trail edge. That gives you 4 layers of wrap on the nose, dropping to two layers from the 4 layer nose to the spar and then one layer back to the trail edge. Make sure to use plenty of resin to adhere the 3 layers to the bare wood forward spar and the one layer at the rear spar. There is no reason to add additional layers of glass or adding carbon fiber to "beef up the wing" unless you're wanting to add weight. The plan wing is sufficiently strong as mine has 600 hours and still attached. Larry Flesner ___ Search the KRnet Archives at http://tugantek.com/archmailv2-kr/search. I saw that too. It is on the same shelf as the rock melt for making it easier to dig holes in the ground. The directions say to just pour this in the crankcase and the dissolved metals in the liquid will atomically bond to areas of the crank that are worn, restoring them to original condition. KR> glassing procedure for wings
There was a brief discussion a few weeks ago, but I want to make certain I have this correct so please bear with me. The KR2s manual I have is dated Jan, 1990 and was acquired last year from NVaero. Stub wing procedure is as follows ( and so I don't have to restate it each time glass is cut and laid on a 45 degree bias). para 10.11 first layup from front of forward spar to rear of wing (top side). para 10.12 second layup at least two inches onto first layup (over front spar) then around leading edge approx 3 inches past cordline. para 10.16 (bottom of wing) same as 10.11 and 10.12. outboard wing sections are basically the same except para 10.32 calls for nose layup to overlap spar caps top and bottom. In summary it takes four layups: 1. leading edge of front spar to rear of wing (top). one layer of glass. 2. front spar (with appropriate overlap) around nose rib to form leading edge layer one. two layers of glass.3. same as step one on bottom of wing. one layer of glass.4. same as step two forming leading edge layer two, using two more layers of glass. four layers total. sorry this got so long but it's a lot easier to make certain I get this correct rather than having to redo it...thanks...robert ___ Search the KRnet Archives at http://tugantek.com/archmailv2-kr/search. Re: KR> Happy new year 2017
Happy New Year to Everyone, I got my last flight of the year in too. IT was one that would have been better on the ground looking up. Really rough, low 30's, and soon after take off the wind was 50 deg. cross at 16kts and gusts to 24. I got beat to crap coming in and landed harder than I like on the right gear. Still she took the beating into submission and is fine to try agian on a better day, myabe tomorrow. Re: KR> flight / overhaul
I used to rebuild Continetal and Lycoming engines back in the day and I was amazed that the vast majority of crankshafts showed little or no wear after first TBO.Nitrited cranks are almost totally resistant to normal wear. Bent flanges are the biggest reason for crank rejection.Don't worry be happy. It's that 800 dollar cam and 63 dollar lifters that are going to be hard to swallow.Tommy W.
