Re: KR> DAR inspections

2017-01-22 Thread Jeff Scott via KRnet

Bob,

In the US, a DAR inspection is the only FAA inspection required on an Amateur
Built Aircraft, and is only performed after the aircraft is completed. All
other inspections are typically by an EAA Tech Counselor and are strictly
voluntary... i.e. not required. Even the Tech Counselor inspections are only
recommended 3 or 4 times during construction. It is highly unlikely that the
Canadian Government would be willing to backtrack and allow you to use what
they would consider to be uninspected parts such as the box spars, closed out
wings, or a closed out fuselage.

Hi All;
I am considering a project in the U.S. that has no documentation whatsoever and
am wondering about DAR inspections.
I want to import this project into Canada and our inspections require a pre
cover (before box spars etc,are closed in) .
What I am wondering is if I might find a number or something that shows it was
done in the U.S .
In Canada each component is stamped or stickered to show it has been done.
The project is fairly complete all spars are closed, wings closed etc.although
it would still meet 51% requirement here in Canada.
I f I can show the inspections I an import as parts and then continue it.
Any thoughts about this?

Approx,. 9 3/4 to 10 inches vertically from bottom of engine pan to bottom of
collector joint.
Hard to measure without removing the lower cowling at this time.

Re: KR> Tailwheel assembly

2017-01-22 Thread Jeff Scott via KRnet

You can order direct or through your favorite aircraft parts vendor. If your
spring is mounted at a non-standard angle, they will be happy to make one to
fit your plane. Choose between the 4" solid tail wheel or the 6"
semi-pneumatic tailwheel (hollow inside to make a bit softer).

Re: KR> DAR inspections

2017-01-22 Thread Robert Russell via KRnet
I am kind of thinking that if I do buy it, it would just be for the parts such
as 2 Great Plains engines landing gear, canopy, wing attach fittings, cowling,
controls such as bell cranks etc.
There is enough value there for those items and anything else I could salvage
would be gravy. i.e like maybe the fuselage but if not just plan to build all
that from scratch.

Here in the US. It is NOT recommended to buy a project under construction
without a builders log.  The thing is you have to prove that 51% of the
airplane by amateurs and without a log there's no way to prove.  From what I've
heard Canada has a much more stringent process. My opinion, do not buy it
without a builders log. You're buying nothing but a problem.

I guess I should have asked also n my previous email if anyone has had to open

Does it not have a steel insert embedded in the end that is about 3/4"
thick to bolt the plans version of the tailwheel bracket to? That's how
the one is on Jim Faughn's plane. I'll get you a picture of it...

Re: KR> 4-into-1 exhaust system help?

2017-01-22 Thread Chris Gardiner via KRnet
Mark,
I can send you some dimensions on the GP 4 into 1 pipe as I have one.
The pictures John Bouyea posted show the offset from the front view as well as
anything I can send.
Suggest you consider the Revmaster stainless 4 into 1 option. I installed it
last year for peace of mind that it will never rust out . It has about the same
amount of offset.
I will take a picture of the SS style and measure it today for you.
The only difficulty I had with the Revmaster is that it is slightly different
at the back and interfered with my intake manifold ( Zenith 1821 carb.)
This may not be an issue for your set up.
Cheers
Chris Gardiner
